Rock Climbing
The Peak District was one of the birthplaces of the modern sport of rock climbing, and still acts as a magnet for climbers from all over Briatain nd the rest of the world.. Outcrops such as Stanage Edge, near Hathersage, and High Tor in Matlock Bath, offer some of the most testing and challenging routes in the country.
Most Peak Disctrict climbs are short and severe, and offer a real test of the climbers technique. It is no coincidence that some of the world`s top mountaineers have cut their climbing teeth on the gritstone edges and limestone tors of the Peak district, and they still come back to them to sharpen their skills.

Caving
Under the gleaming white limestone crags of the White Peak lies another, just as beautiful but usually unseen world, known only to the caver. Expoloring the fantastic formations of stalactites and stalagmites found in the natural caves, or the fascinating remains left in the old lead mines, is a specialist and potentially dangerous sport that should be only attempted in the company of experienced cavers.
